Welcome to Seymour Community Schools

Hello, my name is Lisa Ferguson.  I am the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Seymour Community Schools.   Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this webpage to learn more about curriculum and instruction in our schools.   The staff in each school in our district strives to work with you to promote the educational growth and well being of your child.  Please visit this site often as I will be updating it with the latest news.

I will call your attention to the three pages available to you.

1)  This main page for curriculum is intented to provide links to vital information related to the Local, State, and National requirements for Curriculum.
2)  There is a tab at the top of this page called "The Beacon:  Staff Information".   Each month curriculum produces an informational publication for staff.  This publication describes programs, policies, and educational changes for all staff at Seymour Community Schools.
3)  There is a tab at the top of this page called "The Beacon:  Parent Information".  Three times per year, curriculum produces an informational publication for parents.  This publication will detail the various programs, policies, and educational changes on the horizion for Seymour Community School Corporation students.

Common Core State Standards

The State of Indiana along with 48 other states are in the process of transitioning from the Indiana State Standards to the Common Core State Standards.   The transition is expected to be complete by School Year 2014-15.  Currently Kindergarten and Grade 1 students are using Common Core State Standards.  We are also responsible to implement literacy standards in all content areas.   Along with this transition to the Common Core, we will participate in a new examination called The Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers.  It is important that you learn all you can about both of these initiatives.

PARCC Content Frameworks

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is working with Indiana to develop the test that will replace ISTEP+ in 2014-15.   Information is being shared with school districts and patrons about this test through Content Frameworks.   Please take a moment to learn about the assement experiences that lie ahead for our students.

E.L.V.I.S.:  Everyone Loves Volunteers in Seymour

Hoosier Family of Readers

Students have access to 3,000 online books offered free through the Indiana Department of Education.  The goal for the initiative is for students to identify their Hoosier Family of Readers and read each day throughout the summer.  A reading family can be any combination of caring adults and children.   This is an awesome resource. Please take advantage of it this summer!!
