Respect, Responsibility, Resourcefulness Mr. McClure's Weekly Blog Week of: February 8 – February 12 Week 26 “The Principal’s Post” VALENTINE’S DAY This is a reminder of our school policy for Valentine’s Day. No deliveries for students are accepted at the middle school. All florists and businesses that make deliveries have been notified of the school policy. Students, please let your parents know that no deliveries are accepted at the middle school for Valentine’s Day.
O’BRIEN STREET We have been made aware that the city will be doing some construction along O’Brien beginning this Thursday, February 11th. The estimated time for the construction project is projected at two to three weeks. From what we have been told, O’Brien Street will be down to one traveling lane from Seventh Street to Tenth Street. Heavier congestion is expected in the area surrounding this location. We wanted you to be aware.
2009-2010 SMS YEARBOOKS AVAILABLE FOR ORDERING Students have received order forms for this year's 2009-2010 SMS yearbook. If ordered before March 12th, yearbooks can be purchased for a price of $18. (If ordered after March 12 the price is $20.) Interested students can make their checks payable to Seymour Middle School, and they can remit their payment, with their order forms, to the identified box in the main office. Yearbooks include 80 pages of full color photos. Any student needing an extra order form can acquire one in the main office or on the school’s website.
“RESETTING” THE BUDGET Submitted by: Dr. Armstrong Seymour Community Schools has tightened its belt and found $300,000 savings in supplies, purchasing procedures, and redesigned professional development options. That leaves a shortfall of only $800,000, with fingers crossed that there are no additional cuts announced this year. As we strive to reset our budget, we realize how complicated the process is to explain. To help our public follow along, we have created a flowchart. Although not explicitly stated in the flowchart, all employee groups will be affected throughout the decision making process. You will know where we are in the process by following the red arrow. We will update it as events occur. Click here to view the SCSC “Budget Reset Flowchart.” 3rd QUARTER PROGRESS REPORTS The midway point of this third grading period was Friday, February 5th. Students who are earning below average grades at this point in the grading period will be given progress reports to bring home to parents on Monday, February 8th. PLEASE NOTE: This is a change in procedure. Our past practice has been to mail progress reports home. Because of the current budget restraints, we are depending on the students to bring their reports home to parents. Those not receiving a progress report from their student, but who are interested in receiving information as to your child’s progress, can access your child’s grades online (PIN codes must be signed for in the office) or can contact the school. (Please click here for online access instructions.) FROM SMS 7/8 Congratulations, 8th Grade student, Mr. Shane Heironimus, for being selected as a participant of the National Young Leaders State Conference! NYLSC is a four-day leadership conference for high-achieving middle and high school students. CONGRATULATIONS, SHANE, on your selection!!! THANK YOU for representing SMS and our community!!!
